‘A Practical Object Has More Value Than Being about Me’ – An Interview with András Kerékgyártó
András Kerékgyártó is the leading designer of the multiple award-winning Plydesign. Few know more in Hungary about bent wooden furniture than he does. He explored the culture of sitting in his doctoral research, and simultaneously worked on the development of the chair line FRIGATE. The collection won Product Design Award in 2020, and was recently recognised on at the iF Design Award, an international competition with ten thousand entries. He talked to designisso about his latest award, the development of furniture design after the regime change, professional mindset change, the background of Plydesign and the relevance of utility objects.
András Kerékgyártó graduated as a designer and also got his DLA from the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. He is a university professor at the MOME Design Institute. He has been a designer at Plydesign since 2014.
